If you have a Sony CD player and want to take it apart then the following
phone number might be of interest to you.  It is the phone number for
Sony's Semiconducter sales office and their catalog lists a number of
44 and 88 KHz D/A converters.  (Gee, I wonder what they use those D/A
converters for.)

They sent me the spec for the D/A converter in the new CDP 102 and
302 CD players.  It is a full 16 bit 88 KHz dual D/A converter and quoted 
me a price of $25 for the chip in small quantities.
