There's another aspect to those statistics about accidents typically
happening close to home.  Most of the accidents that happen on LONG
journeys happen near the end, I read somewhere.  Various reasons,
including increasing fatigue, and maybe trying to make a deadline
(this isn't supposed to be the tautology that the accident often IS
the end, practically speaking).
