The great question is -- just because the majority believes that funding public education is a good thing -- does that make it a good thing? The majority has been wrong before. Is public education a good thing? Critics claim that it is more expensive than private education, that it is poorer quality education, and that it indocrinates children with state supported views. Assume that you think that public education is a *bad thing*. Now what? Convince other people?! Changing the state supported institutions is not that easy. Can a non-Democrat or non-Republican push something like that through? If not -- can you make this part of either the Democrat or the Republican platform? If not - how useful are American elections anyway? Great. Now not only do you have to combat the state school monster but you want to change the whole electoral process. Good luck...if you come up with a non-violent way to do this, post to net.politics.theory. Laura Creighton utzoo!laura
