	Well, in the quiet streets of Princeton, NJ, I carry two .75 inch
diameter ~4.5 inch long wooden dowels,  which are grasped, one in each
hand, and used to strike with.  These innocent looking items ("Really
Officer Friendly, I found these dowels and was going to use them for a perch
in my birdcage....") can be quite deadly when used properly.  Of course,
having ~13 years of training gives me more confidence in their use.

	In more urban areas (New York, or San Diego) I carry my Sykes-Fairbairn
knife (a wicked implement whose only purpose is killing),  either 5 very
sharp shuriken or 3 throwing knives (non-poisoned),  the previously mentioned
wooden dowels;  and my wits.  

	These precautions have saved my life twice.  Once a member of the poor 
oppressed minority classes, while debating with me upon my ignorant assertion 
to the individual's right to property, attempted to convince me of the 
correctness of his view by attacking me with his gravity knife.  I offered 
him a counter argument, as he was ~12 feet away from me, and I was already 
throwing sharp things at him.  He made the correct decision, and fled(NYC).  
At another time some misunderstood youth also chose not to attack me with 
his knife, as after he motioned with his weapon,  he was 10 feet away from 
me, halfway through a broken door, with a complete set of fractured ribs 
on his left side, and a punctured lung(San Diego).  Ah, the beauties of 
passive resistance coupled with the power of convincing argument!

However, due to the increased violence in the streets, I have decided to 
begin carrying a handgun, as soon as I make a decision on the optimal firearm 
for self-defense use.  Any suggestions?  Many years of combat training still 
do not make an unarmed(:-) peaceful law-abiding citizen like myself a 
match for a drug-crazed welfare-receiving gun-wielding liberal psychopath.....
