 No offense but, it seems to me that some people with children are
totally unaware of the profound effect that their offspring's antics
have on some of us. I refer of course to the unholy screaming, whooping,
wailing and whimpering that these little-ones seem so fond of treating
everyone to, in most public places! Some of my friends have children and
usually they are well behaved. The exception to this was about 1 year ago,
we had a party and the invitations warned that the event was an 'adults-
only' affair. These people brought their brood anyway.."Oh well!" I thought,
"..maybe it will be O.K..." *WRONG!* After the first 30 minutes of the
meteoric-screaming, fighting, breaking things...my friends commented on
how hot it was, and that it was no doubt the reason that the kids were so
hyper! Then disaster struck, one of the boys began moving EVERY CONTROL on
my H.F. transceiver! I started to moan in anguish, my buddy's wife looked
right at me and said: "Isnt it wonderful how interested he is in that old
radio?" ..T'was then that I asked her if she had read the invitation that
we had sent out...she said: "Why of course! We did R.S.V.P. you know!" I
felt like killing something! Instead I reminded her that this was supposed
to have been an 'adults only' event, her response was instant: "KEN! Time
to LEAVE!" and without another word, they departed. We have not heard from
her since, altho Ken did call later that week to say 'Sorry!' It took me
4 hours to re-tweek my H.F. set, and with that my wife and I have resolved
that *never again* will we permit such monsters on our premises! Our nieces
and nephews know better and act accordingly. Our friends with kids now still
attend our parties without them ,but know why the rule exists. Kid-proofing
my place is not an answer! I refuse! Well, that's my experience. Parents are
brave people, I couldnt imagine taking on a 16 year R&D project like KIDS!
