I just saw recently an old Bing Crosby movie. During a scene the man played the clarinet about 90% of the time, HORIZONTALLY. I realize that it looks good and Benny Goodman does it, BUT only on the high notes. You try teaching a 7th grader(that's where they start em up here) how to play a clarinet horizontally. It is bad enough playing it vertically. And another instrument, one which I have played the sax. The above horizontal movement that some clarinetists use some of the time is not possible with a saxophone. If you ever watch a good sax player, he will never, unless he ain't playing it(videos), play it holding it up to the heavens. One can get a hernia that way. One can also swallow the mouthpiece. (Don't try this at home kids; these are trained professionals.) Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, DAVE BROWN
