Last months _Life_ Magazine has a feature on how the song came about and how the words were written. It was all thrown together so fast that I can see how such a goof could have occured. Once such incident was a line which originally was "There's a life we're taking, were giving our own lives" (at least thats how I remember it - I have since disposed of the issue) - and while singing it some thought that that could be hinting at suicide. So on the fly the words were changed. Other ruckesses occured when Stevie Wonder wanted to sing some words in an African toungue and a good ole country boy singer left in disgust (not Willie Nelson.)
