The medium is so powerful, there's so much potential there it's a shame that it isn't being put to better use. It fairly screams to be used for education, yet most of the attempts I've seen are really poorly done. And some of the shows that pretend to be serious are the most dangerous. Take 60 minutes. (please!) They put on this facade of being objective. They're the "good guys", showing us how the slime-balls are raking in the dough dishonestly. Do they show both sides? No, they distort things so bad that they're as bad as some of the things they try and expose. Their opinions usually look quite reasonable. But then they do a story on something on something you know about, and they make themselves look like a bunch of baboons. Which makes one wonder about those cases you took their word for because you didn't know anything about it. Solution: quit watching them, they cannot be trusted. The pseudo-scientific shows are somewhat better, they generally aren't trying to shape public opinion, they're merely trying to educate. Just that they oversimplify everything to keep the length reasonable, and so that a mass audience can understand it. Yes, they do need to simplify it somewhat, my complaint is that they overdo it to such an extent. If you want to call someone a "snob", try PBS. But be careful, they may take offense and punch your lights out. Sometimes a reasonable movie get on. Even then, they often cut out so much that you can't follow the plot. (At this point, some people suggest cable, but cable isn't exactly cost effective, and often has major quality problems as well. ) _____ |___| the Bavarian Beagle _|___|_ Snoopy \_____/ tektronix!mako!seifert \___/ "It drives just like a truck."
