	in a word, yes.  and it's my opinion that most of the ``psychological
        degradation'' comes from people that think that prostitutes are not
	worth the dust they are made of (to take the biblical bit somewhere).
	to draw an analogy (which may perhaps be a bit weak), prostitution
	is essentially the same as dancing, singing, or playing a musical
	instrument for money; it is an entertainment service.
