Lines: 66 Thanks in part to the replies to my query about a driver, the driver in question is now working well. I particularly want to thank twg!mario, nrcaero!carl and petsd!lts. As Brent pointed out, we all owe Earl Wallace of PE-Santa Clara (pesnta) our gratitude for his political and technical work in getting the pe.cust newsgroups going. Other than the yearly Interchange meetings, the pe.cust group is the only way we have of exchanging views. And, unlike interchange meetings, the uucp net allows the posting of such valuable pieces as Axel's articles and driver manual which are more usable in machine readable form than in printed form. It is unfortunate that Axel can communicate on the net only in proxy via Carl Swail's kind aid. The value of the pe.cust newsgroup grows in proportion to the number of PE sites participating and to the degree that PE itself and TWG participate. Note from those who responded to my driver query, both twg and petsd are on the net and do respond to requests for aid (however unofficially). It is understandable that TWG and PE do not (and perhaps should not) have an official role in the net. Other organizations don't, including DEC, AT&T, HP, etc. By supporting some of the phone charges incurred by forwarding Usenet news to various sites, PE is making pe.cust possible. Unofficial participation on the part of individuals at TWG and/or PE, however, can do nothing but help everyone. The contribution of expert knowledge to the pe.cust group materially improves customer satisfaction and loyalty. And, given the wide dissemination of opinion and information on the worldwide Usenet, this improvement in PE customer satisfaction will eventually become known in wider circles on the net. But knowledge of PE hardware, Edition VII internals (and eventually even XELOS internals) is not limited to TWG and PE. Participants such as Axel, Carl Swail, Dave Sherman, and Brent Laminack together have most if not all of the information available to PE. Collectively we may well know more than PE about Edition VII. And the more PE sites that become active in this group, the more knowledge we can tap. I am appending a list of sites which I believe are running Unix on PE machines but which have not yet (to my knowledge) participated in pe.cust discussions. Perhaps they do not have uucp running, or are not on Usenet, or do not know about or receive pe.cust news, or have not yet had any reason to post to the group. Several of these sites have source and hence tend to have better information. If possible, we should attempt to get all of these sites connected to and participating in the pe.cust group.
