Art majors usually have to shell out at least $100 - $200 per semester for supplies. For music majors a professional quality flute or clarinet can easily run over $2000, and I have no idea what professional string instruments cost. Some instruments are supplied by the schools (tuba, string bass, etc.) but these are in the minority. Granted, these items are not as expensive as a PC, but they are not trivial either.
