"Shutdown" always works >regardless. This happens frequently on disks that use the old (-0.15) >version of macterminal but it is not exclusively limited to using >macterminal. I used to have this problem frequently with my MacTerminal 1.1 (release) disk using finder 1.1g. The problem was due to my having downloaded many binhexed programs, converted them on that disk before transferring them. As a result, the DeskTop (invisible file) was HUGE. Your reference to "Shutdown" implies you may have Finder 4.1 where that problem shouldn't exist, (4.1 ckleans up the DeskTop), but if not then you have to manually clean the DeskTop file by shift-option double-click on finder and hold the mouse button down until the Finder menu bar appears. There are other better ways to clean the desktop, such as the PurgeIcons application which is on Compuserve or using the resource editor to remove everything from the DeskTop files EXCEPT FOBJ, STR, and FCMT. These are better because they don't remove the folders or the Get Info data. -- Jim Budler Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
