Message-ID: <152@omen.UUCP> Date: Sun, 5-May-85 15:04:05 EDT Article-I.D.: omen.152 Posted: Sun May 5 15:04:05 1985 Date-Received: Tue, 7-May-85 22:38:05 EDT References: <2050@sdcc6.UUCP> Organization: Omen Technology, Portland Lines: 26 Keywords: PC-AT Xenix Printer I have a Dynax DX-15 and Gemini-10X interfaced to parallel ports on a monochrome board and the S/P board that came with the AT. I have heard that old version monochrome boards won't work with Xenix. The parallel port on an AST Megaplus II and on a Paradise Systems board didn't work with Xenix either, although they work fine with DOS. I couldn't get the parallel port on an AST Advantage! to work properly but didn't pursue the matter since I have plenty of parallel ports. Main problems: Xenix Nroff doesn't support any modern printer features such as proportional space, shadow print, etc. Xenix crashes when power is cycled on the printer. lpr(1) munges printer escape sequences. If you have newline problems, use lpr or sed. Are Nroff and Troff dying programs? Xenix doesn't support any modern devices with either program, but Microsoft WORD supports even the LaserJet. Xenix does have an Nroff table for ASR33 but I'd rather have one that properly drives something more modern. -- Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX ..!tektronix!reed!omen!caf Omen Technology Inc 17505-V NW Sauvie IS RD Portland OR 97231 Voice: 503-621-3406 Modem: 503-621-3746 (Hit CR's for speed detect)
