In fact, maybe you have a really good friend after she leaves -- it depends on how you feel about staying in touch, writing letters, economics of visiting, etc....Years ago, my SO left town, we decided that if we were in our parents' generation, I would marry him and follow him, but as it was, I wasn't quitting school, we were too smart to do an LDR, so....(No regrets, if we end up in the same place, I'd try to think of him as someone very like someone I used to love, and see what happened from there, but...)...Anyhow, the point is that we continued to write, we saw each other (for back-rubs, at least) a couple times a year, for about 4 years...so you don't *have* to sever the ties between you....
