Absolutely not! Eugen Sandow, the great strongman, whom some claim to have had one of the most exquisite male physiques of all time (actually, he had a rather small head, and that accentuated the scale of his torso, but he was really a knockout) is famous for saying, "Life is motion." To me, the ability to, in some way, move gracefully through life, in coordinated motion, is one of the great gifts of health in humanity. Those who can do so are fortunate indeed, and those who could do so and don't are missing out on one of life's greater pleasures. When one develops a sensitivity for artful physical expression, whether it's in the extremely critical balance of a heavyweight clean and jerk or in the intricate interlaced fingerings of a Renaissance recorder piece, that carries over into a physical relationship with a lover, and it's all the more expressive. Jane Fonda has a marvelous expression for the goal one should have in mind when exercising. It's to be "less soggy." Nobody can tolerate a soggy person for very long. I suspect she borrowed that from one of her colleagues, one of the finer women to be born in this century, in any century, for that matter, Katerine Hepburn. If ever there was a non-soggy person, she is it. fbr
