There are two dances that everybody should learn.  The Waltz and the
Swing.  The Waltz because it gives you a chance to hold a friend
close and glide around the room, and the Swing because with a few
simple steps you can look like great, like something out of a
jitterbug contest.  And both men and women should learn to both lead
and follow, so as to be able to teach a partner. 

Also, if you master the Waltz and the Swing, you will be able to learn
any other patterned dance there is (because you'll know where your feet
are), and you'll be able to hear the difference between 4/4 time and
3/4 time, so you'll be able to rock (unpatterned) dance to 90% of
existing music.

And if you really want to get fancy, there's the Viennese Waltz,
with it's tricky tempo and direction changes. (Most Strauss Waltzes 
are Viennese Waltzes.) Or the Cha-Cha, or the Tango, or the Rhumba,
or...

Now, if you think finding a guy to go rock dancing is hard, just try and
find one to go ballroom dancing!
