I don't think saving Spock in itself will help the 'renegades' when they are brought up on charges for stealing the Enterprise. However, I would suspect that the current Vulcan matriarch might intercede on their behalf, and maybe the punishment will not be so severe - Kirk will probably be court- marshalled - he hates his desk job anyway.
