If the Washington Post is right (5/7, C3), I-95, I-70, I-83 in Maryland, and the Baltimore beltway will become...er...uh, somewhat slower. It seems a new crackdown went into effect today on speeders. Maryland State Troopers will be driving in 5-10 mile segments, 4 cruisers across at 55 in an attempt to reduce the average speed of traffic. Seems somebody noticed that large numbers of troopers were being passed on the highway. Of additional interest, trucks and foreign cars (unmarked with State Police plates and manned by uniformed troopers) will be employed at roadside radar checkpoints. "We want motorists to think any disabled vehicle along the road could be a trooper using radar" (attributed to police spokesman Bill Tower.) I guess flashing hi-beams would be pointless. :-) -dave
