I am going on a long trip and would like to take my bike. It seems that the type of carrier that best fits my car (VW Golf) is a rooftop mount. To me, a bike perched way up there looks precarious. Too many long moment arms, and think of the bugs, birds, and increased drag. Still, a lot of people with very good bikes use rooftop carriers and I wonder if there is a reason why.
