They were invented in South Africa, and franchises are popping up all over the US and the world. The reason I didn't buy one is that I am under the impression that it takes me as much time to put the device into the pool, wait for it to do the cleaning (at least checking every once in a while that it didn't get stuck in a corner) and removing it from the pool again. I figure that if I don't have the time, I pay a neighborhood-kid to vacuum, while if I do have the time I don't gain anything by watching the crawler. However, it is a fascinating gadget and I was quite tempted.
