It's just plain, old 800 Mhz transmissions, which you can receive on an old UHF TV if you feel like wasting your time that way. The "cells" simply handle particular regions and switch the voice connection from cell to cell as necessary for a moving vehicle. In the future, there may be digitized/scrambled voice channels for cellular radio--but that hasn't happened yet. --Lauren--
