Message-ID: <1143@hound.UUCP> Date: Fri, 10-May-85 09:34:13 EDT Article-I.D.: hound.1143 Posted: Fri May 10 09:34:13 1985 Date-Received: Sat, 11-May-85 02:20:26 EDT Organization: AT&T Bell Labs, Holmdel NJ Lines: 12 One argument in favor of the seatbelt requirement is that it will reduce injuries and death and therefore reduce insurance claims, which would (theoretically) lead to cheaper insurance rates. I pay close to 800 $ per year for fairly ordinary auto insurance in New Jersey. I suspect that a large chunk of that money goes to pay off hospital bills, lawyers' fees, and "pain 'n' sufferin' "claims for bubble-heads who were too "cool" to wear seatbelts. I feel they have a right to risk being maimed and killed, but they don't have a right to expect the rest of us to pay for it. Anyone who gets in an accident and is hurt while not wearing a seatbelt should have their insurance policy canceled.
