I usually only notice this during the first 15 minutes of a feature film. Interestingly, no matter how many trailers, cartoons, newsreels, and now even advertisements they put on before the feature a certain percentage of cretins always manages to show up just in time to distract you during the opening scenes of the feature. >Then of course there were the constant talkers. I've given up fighting this and have arrived at an functional, if uncomfortable solution. 1) Always sit in the first five rows. I'm getting nearsighted in my old age so this is no real nuisance, but the point is the sound system will drown out all but the closest, most obnoxious talkers. 2) Wear ear plugs. True, you lose some of the better effects of the multi- channel stereo systems, but they also block out 100% of the talkers. Even screaming babies don't get through. >Now, here's one that really bugs me. Every hour on the hour (give or take >a few minutes), a bunch of digital watches start beeping. This is pretty See solution to talkers. My worst experience in a movie theater was when some jerk came in who apparently had never taken a bath or shower in his life or washed his clothes for that matter. My date and I got up and left, along with most of the people sitting within five rows of him. (_He_ had no problems with nearby talkers, but I consider his solution worse than the problem). Actually, my final solution to rudeness at the movies is to stop going to theaters. Why pay upwards of $5 to be aggravated when in a few months you can rent the video tape for $1? Wide screen and stereo sound is nice, but a private showing is much nicer. -- -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- The Polymath (aka: Jerry Hollombe) Citicorp TTI 3100 Ocean Park Blvd. Santa Monica, CA 90405 (213) 450-9111, ext. 2483 {philabs, randvax, trwrb, vortex}!ttidca!ttidcc!hollombe
