Texas CS Dept., Austin, Texas Lines: 70 Dear Mr. Quarterman, I suggest that you owe the members of the ACM-UT ( Association for Computing Machinery - University of Texas at Austin Student Chapter ) and myself an apology. You are making derogatory remarks about an Organization that you know anything about. It is true that you were offered a free membership in the organization, due to your position as ut-sally site administrator. But, you did not even bother to fill out the membership form. After such a claim, I am glad that you did not. You claim that an election was not held! Well Mr. Quarterman, your claiming that there was not an election just because you, a non-member, did not know about it is STUPID! Their was an election and four out of the five offices changed hands. Yes, I was re-elected. This may be because of some of the following things that were accomplished during my first term: 1) Entered the ACM South central programming contest for the first time. We won first place in the under-graduate, and third place in the graduate, and overall. 2) Established connections with ACM Austin and Regional. Going to their meetings, even if that meant giving up my weekend to attend one out of town. This may be why they appointed me, the president from UT, to be the Student Chapter Chair at the South Central Regional Conference. 3) Started the Computer Science Note service to help the CS Students acquire class notes from professors that would not do them before. This included spending hours after school copying tranparencies to make originals so we could get the notes for the students. 4) Arranged for the first factory tour ever in the history of the ACM-UT. This will take place this summer and go to Texas Instruments. 5) Held faculty/student social hours so students could get to know their professors. 6) Acquired the first computer for the UT chapter. 7) Aquired a $500.00 grant from AT&T for a womens' subchapter. Mr. Quarterman, I do hope that you will make a public retraction of your asinine comment to net.flame. I also do hope in the future you stick to talking about things you know something about. I also would like to add that I no longer give you the privilege of addressing me on a first name basis, that is reserved for friends, not back stabbers! -- =============================================================================== The opinions expressed here are mine, and should not be confused with the Hitler Youths at UT-Sally who want to censor me. david@ut-sally.{ARPA,UUCP} ARPA: david@ut-sally.ARPA USENET: {ihnp4,ctvax,seismo}!ut-sally!david ps: flames are accepted.
