Message-ID: <307@moncol.UUCP> Date: Mon, 20-May-85 11:05:43 EDT Article-I.D.: moncol.307 Posted: Mon May 20 11:05:43 1985 Date-Received: Mon, 20-May-85 19:14:48 EDT Organization: Monmouth College, West Long Branch, NJ 07764 Lines: 16 Used to be that AT&T made good, high quality phones. They had nice pleasant bells instead of those irritating shrill ringers. They had heavy metal bases instead of plastic. No more. When I went to the AT&T phone center to buy a new Trimline, I learned that they have been replaced by the Trimline II. What a piece of garbage. The new phone is lighter, has a totally cosmetic base (the wire from the jack passes undisturbed through the bottom of the base onto the handset), an electronic ringer and really junky feeling pushbuttons. I suppose AT&T decided that being cheaper is more profitable than being better. Meanwhile, I hope word gets back to the powers that be that some people want the kind of phone Western Electric made when AT&T was the customer. The kind that stand up to 30 years of abuse and are a pleasure to use. Leave the under $25 junk for the Orient. Ben Broder ..ihnp4!princeton!moncol!ben
