You could use the < and > keys as up and down (and you stay there when levitating, but you can only jump up briefly when not levitating); you could also have items hanging from the ceiling, like bats or food caches. An addition to the status line (like "Alt:" or "Hght:" would tell you whether you were on the ceiling, on the floor, or in between. You'd fight up and down the same way you moved; also, you'd have to deal with monsters coming up the stairs at you. So what do you all think?
