As far as I can tell these guys do not regenerate. If they do, it is much slower than I do. My usual style of fighting them is to hit a few times and then backup to regenerate my own hit points, and then hit some more. The monsters take a fairly consistent number of hits - depending on strength, weapon, dexterity, experience - regardless of amount of backing up. If we regenerate at the same speed this would not be true. ROG-O-MATIC, a reliable guru, uses this strategy, so I expect that statistics would back me up.
