Besides the diversity of his material and instruments, what was especially impressive was the stories he wove in about the place that some of his songs have had in his life as a person and a performer. His playing of Si Kahn's "Gone, Gonna Rise Again" on the hammer dulcimer was a moment of transcendence. Do go see John McKutcheon; he is one artist who gains a great deal in live performance.
