Since the artist who wrote and recorded the song is not credited in either the original query or the response, I'd like to mention that his name is Larry Groce (pronounced "Gross"). The song actually made the ROLLING STONE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ROCK AND ROLL (where his name was misspelled "Croce," as in Jim) in a list of one-time hits by artists who have never again made the pop charts. But in the folk music world Larry Groce is not a one-shot artist, as he has made several albums (I don't have the titles or labels on hand).
