I find it appalling that there are people out there (particularly those who subscribe to music.synth) that don't know who Kraftwerk are. They have been, and continue to be, one of the MOST influential bands of 'modern music.' And to say that the lyrics have something to do with a German highway is like, ya know, totallyweird man. The bible has something to do with religion. Kraftwerk are THE major precursors of electro-pop, 'Euro-pop,' modern electronic wave, and synth rock in general. Their influence is not only direct - the reaction to regimentation ( though that is/was part of their criticism of modern existence) in music has helped (through misinterpretation as well as understanding) forms like punk, industrial, thrash, jazz et al. to flourish. By all means go get Autobahn as it is historic. Man-Machine and Radio-activity are also remarkable. Their recent stuff has been a litle over-kill-ish, though the big-dance single Tour de France is fabulous. And I don't really even like them that much. Robert Seals - probably the last time you'll ever hear from me - whopee.
