Lines: 36 Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that the US Government does not invest in SA or the USSR, but that US corporations invest in SA and the USSR. The US Government is busy with its own investments to the tune of 14.5 billion this budget. See government investments in the continued support of over 100 countries around the world. Some friends, some enemies, some questionable. As to the value or morality of some of these investments, I leave to you folks to argue. I have some opinions, but I don't feel right now like getting into a potboiler. As for US corporations investing, take a look at the giant farming combine Mondale works for. Talk about investments in the USSR and SA. Whew. Also consider Armand Hammer, CEO of OXY Pete, who is probably the biggest US investor the USSR has. He also has his fingers in Lybia. Money makes strange bedfellows, even stranger than politics. I am more upset with the investments US corporations have made in Lybia than what is going on in SA. The investments in Lybia help to produce oil, which generates income for the state, which allows them to train more terrorists. At least in SA, the blacks working for the US corporations are being paid some modest sum to be used for their own purposes. Not so in Lybia. Take away the US corporations in SA and quite a few people end up back on the veldt scratching for an existence. As for the argument that SA is the homeland of the blacks, a little reading of the history of the region will settle that one. Check out where the Zulus and the Bantu tribes originated. It wasn't in SA. Finally, aparthied is not the answer to any of SAs problems. It must be stopped. However, how to bring this about is not an easy solution. There are good whites working to resolve the problem in SA. Their ranks are growing each day. It is all well and good to deplore the situation, but it is not up to us to solve the problem for them. They must do it themselves or it will not be done. T. C. Wheeler
