Well, I've found a partial answer to one of my questions of last week.
"SLAW" is the reporting mark for St. Lawrence Railroad.
As near as I can tell, both the SLAW and Pickens use[d] the same logo
of interlocking arrows inscribed in a circle and filled with stars.
What, if any, is the relationship between these two railraods?

Was the Pickens any relation to T. Boone Pickens,
the one who seems to spend most of his time 
trying to take over / buy out random companies?
