I think that the equivalent of Earth Shoes these days are Birkenstocks, which are among the ugliest form of footgear ever. It's one of those "swear by them" or "swear at them" issues. (I tend toward the latter.) The difference between Earth Shoes and Birkenstocks is that the former was more of a "fad" in footwear, whereas I've been told that Birkenstocks are really comfortable as well as functional. I've never owned a pair of either: I favor running shoes for casual footwear.
