I have a pair of Birkenstocks on my feet right now which I have had since 1979, and they look better than most 1-year-old sandals of other brands. Like anything one wears, it is possible to get ugly ones. The different styles go by different names in different countries, but I think mine are called "Arizona" in the US. I think that certain other styles are, as you say, ugly. By the way, do you folks know how to tell at a glance whether a random Caucasian male wearing sandals is European or American? This isn't a joke but rather a hypothesis tested by many obser- vations: Europeans wear socks with their sandals. _____________________________________________________ Matt University crawford@anl-mcs.arpa Crawford of Chicago ihnp4!oddjob!matt
