Not many colleges (i.e.: none) have ice-skating rinks out here in L.A.. On the other hand, I've been skating here, both seriously and for fun, for the last 30 years or so, so it can be done. Sad to report, the quality of people one meets at skating rinks has gone down considerably over the years. With the advent of little league hockey one now finds obnoxious kids on hockey skates at the rinks during just about all hours and sessions. One frequently sees small groups of kids sitting around sharing illegal beers and cigarettes and trying to look tough. The quality of the rinks has gone down as well. Rental skates, never the best, are now virtually useless except as intstruments of torture. Most rinks around here have actually gone to plastic boots on their rentals (what do you mean, your "feet can't breathe"?). I find it mildly depressing that, not only am I older than most of the people on the ice, not only are my _skates_ older than most of the people on the ice, but the LACES on my skates are older than most of the people on the ice. Sigh. My favorite place to meet women is at Mensa meetings. At least I can usually find some intelligent conversation there. -- -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- The Polymath (aka: Jerry Hollombe) Citicorp TTI 3100 Ocean Park Blvd. Santa Monica, CA 90405 (213) 450-9111, ext. 2483 {philabs, randvax, trwrb, vortex}!ttidca!ttidcc!hollombe
