The Village Voice had an interesting theory about why the Mets
signed Joe Sambito. It seems that he still has a year left on his
contract with the Astros, so the Mets only need to pay the major
league minimum of 40,000 a year, with the Astros picking up the
rest of his 500G salary. I guess they've got to make up for Kingman
somewhere!
