My own impression of the > goal (after seeing the replay several times) is that one cannot easily > determine if the puck was intentionally deflected into the net. However, Since I've not really had the chance to follow hockey recently the way I used to, I don't really remember the exact rule on deflecting the puck in. Anyone out there know the rule? I think the rule is that the puck cannot be put into the net by the use of a motion 'towards the net' *regardless* of whether it was intentional or not (unless of course it was knocked in by a stick). Matter of fact, I don't think intention has anything to do with it. Case 1: offensive player falls and accidently pushes the puck with him into the net. If I remember right, this is not allowed. Case 2: shot comes in from the point. An offensive player is standing in front of the net, and turns his skate to deflect the puck (but he doesn't kick it towards the net). The goal is allowed. > this does not mean I think the goal should be allowed. Again, I don't think it matters whether it was an accident or not. But I also feel the ref made the right call. It was kind of a 'bang-bang' play, and it was close . . . Even after seeing the replay over and over, I'm still not sure whether or not his skate was moving towards the net when the puck deflected off of it. Good luck Phillie.
