 I just recalled an episode, "The Tholian Web", in which the Enterprise
 is involved in rescueing a starship which I believe was called the
 Defiant.  Its' crew went insane and were all dead, due to being
 interspacially trapped. I don't recall the ship number or the
 captain's name.  The ship was lost presumably in another parallel
 universe; Kirk was marooned on board and eventually saved by a balky
 transporter.
