Who Goes? And Who is Traded to CHEERS? Message-ID: <626@vax2.fluke.UUCP> Date: Thu, 16-May-85 04:36:28 EDT Article-I.D.: vax2.626 Posted: Thu May 16 04:36:28 1985 Date-Received: Fri, 17-May-85 05:05:49 EDT Distribution: na Organization: John Fluke Mfg. Co., Inc., Everett, WA Lines: 49 From this week's issue of TV Guide: It appears that HILL STREET BLUES will be adding yet another regular character, to be played by Dennis Franz, who played the corrupt narcotics cop Sal Benedetto a couple of seasons ago. However, they mention that to cut costs, guest stars and extras will be cut back on. Also, several regular cast memebers will also be eliminated. Hope we still get to see Mrs. Renko (who is, in fact, Mrs. Haid) and Belker's girlfriend Robin on occasion. The interesting part: they mention that while no names have been brought up, the following are NOT on the "endangered list": Captain Furillo, Joyce Davenport, Fay Furillo, Sergeant Jablonski, Detectives Belker and Washington, Officers Hill and Renko. Which brings up the matter of: who goes? Well, first, for those who are staying, it seems that the best characters are being kept (though Fay could be dropped without any great loss). I'm very glad that Jablonski is being kept; he's definately the best new addition they've had in years. All the rest do consistently good work, also. Now, as to who goes: LaRue's name seems conspicously absent from the list, and with the shenanigans he's pulled in the last few years, it seems safe to see him as a "dispensable" character. Also, I notice Henry is not mentioned; perhaps the last episode of the season (airing tomorrow night (the 16th)) will have him buy the farm. As to others: James B. Sikking does a lot of film work, and might decide that he could do without Lt. Howard Hunter from now on. I would like them to keep Lucy Bates if at all possible, though her sergeant's rank would be a pretty good incentive to move to another precinct. Coffey works best with Bates, so if she goes, I hope he follows. Ray Caitono (sp?) is a mystery to me; that could go either way. The two newcomers, Patsy and Harry, are pretty good, but if I had a choice, I'd prefer Patsy stick around. Leo, like LaRue, is history; a sure bet for the fast lane out. What about it, folks? What do you think? Who will (should) go or stay? "I can give you my word, but I know what it's worth and you don't." -Nero Wolfe, _Over_My_Dead_Body_ Moriarty, aka Jeff Meyer John Fluke Mfg.
