Thanks for the many (~15) replies to my question about using
the BIND domain resolver/server for 4.2bsd.  All said they
were successfully querying nic, isib, and isif.  Our problem
turned out to be faulty udp checksums generated by 4.2bsd.
More embarrassing, the problem was well known, and a fix had
been posted.
