Here is the Voltage Doubler that I mentioned previously and have only
now come around to putting on line. I did not design this circuit it
is in the Hayden book 110 IC timer projects by Jules H. Gilder, pg 109. 
This is a very useful book for  some really neat circuits. He also details
a 555 based voltage inverter that when coupled with this circuit would 
probably make a very effective RS-232 interface from a 5V supply.
