Lines: 17 I own a very low mileage (3K) 1975 vintage XS750 Yamaha triple. Anyone on the net with experience with this bike? The bike is in excellent condition but has not been ridden for a long time due to the "bad news" I got last year when I brought the bike to the dealer for a tune-up and asked him to check out the erratic behaviour the bike exhibited when shifting to 3rd (the bike shifts, no problem, but a twist on the throttle and the thing feels like it's got a turbo and the boost kicked in). The dealer said that the trannie was going (with only 3K miles on it??) and said that this wasn't the first case of this he's seen with this model. Cost to fix between $100 and $800 depending upon how deep they had to go into the transmission and shaft drive to fix the problem (split the cases, etc). Now I can't make this kind of investment (wife hates the bike as it is) since the book value is probably a lot lower that the cost of fixing but since I cannot afford (or justify to the old lady) buying a new bike (and don't want to sell it outright since my chances of replacing are slim) I'm wondering if anyone has had similar problems or has heard of anything like this. Any info, thoughts, comments, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
