Personally, I like the Dunlop K391's, especially the "R" compound. They don't wear as long as some, but they stick well. A lot of racers swear by Pirelli Phantoms and Metzler Lazers. I have a Michelin racing rain tire, but since it is still in the garage I can't say how well it works. Most of the differences -- to a street rider -- are moot. You probably don't drag your pegs around every corner (or if you do you won't for long) so you might get by with a more mileage oriented tire, such as the Dunlop 291's or Continentals. I haven't heard anything about the new Conti Super Tires (or whatever the marketing types call them) so I can't say much about them. My best advice is to go down to your local race track, find someone with the same bike you have, and ask them which tire works best for them. You might also go to your local cycle shop and ask the parts guy if he knows of any local go fast types and if so, what they use. Be aware that he might try to sell you whatever tire he has in stock. Don't run out of the store screaming for the consumers bureau, just tell him you realize he is stuck with an unpopular tire and you'ld be willing to help him out. Offer him about 60% of the marked price and you'ld be surprised how many take it (that's a typical mark-up in the industry). If he has been sitting on it for a while, he might even throw in a free mounting. Doug (you make em I break em) Schwartz Beaverton Design Center CAE Systems Information Display Group Tektronix, Inc.
