No flames telling you to change stations?  What the hell do you want??
90% of Top 40 radio is shit anyway!  Here in the NYC area, most of the
stations went Top 40 in a mad rush late last year, and there is really
just one (WNEW-FM) that isn't.  I find that I rarely change my dial.

Almost by definition AM radio is Top 40.  That's how it got its start
with the screamin' meanies and Motormouths of the air.  There's not too
much you can do, apart from finding another station.  Or you can get
hold of cassettes of the music you like, and step on your radio.  (That's
what I do more than listen to WNEW.)  

You said that you buy albums and then dread hearing them on the radio?
Whose do you buy?  You covered most of the popular people!  (I agree on
most of those counts, but I am a fan of Billy Joel and Phil (Sususudio)
Collins (though I could live without that song). 

What do you like???  You might try classical music or the all-news station?
Or perhaps buying an FM radio is the answer??  (AM sucks, has always sucked
and always will suck!)

By the way, while it's cool to blame the DJ for what he says and how he
says it, don't blame him for the playlist.  Most stations (probably ALL 
-- at least commercial stations) dictate playlists to the jocks.  Hits, hits
and more hits.  "If it's not a hit, we don't play it!"  Of course, 
management also picks the DJs.
