I noticed an ad for CROSSFIRE in the LA Weekly, which reads in part: "Gee, where did all the fun go?" Lamented Jane, boread as a 2x4, and dearly missing the carefree days of her misspent youth. "To the mountains," Dick casually offered. "Above Malibu." "Tell me more," Jane pleaded. After an eternity, Dick smiled, "Sure, it's a real kick, but," he cautioned her, "keep your body low, your senses high, and be ready to move. Quick!" CROSSFIRE: An Outdoor Adventure Game. CROSSFIRE, like PHOTON, is a variant of Capture the Flag. Unlike PHOTON, CROSSFIRE is played outdoors, in (as the ad mentions) the mountains above Malibu. Two teams of 8-14 players are gathered and released onto a field. The rules are much the same as Capture the Flag except that each player is equipped with a CO2 powered paint gun. According to a spokesman for CROSSFIRE, these guns are accurate to 30-35 yards. One team is red, the other blue. Players are also provided with elimination vests that they don once they have been shot. Players also get protective goggles. Each player gets 2 CO2 cartridges and 2 paint tubes, which is apparently enough for ~ 20 shots. Cost is $30/player (ugh!) and games are run Saturday and Sunday at 10 and 2. Normally a whole team (or two teams) sign up at a time, however, they will accept individual signups, though you have to wait for an opening to appear. No address is given in the ad, but two phone numbers are available: (818) 99-GAMES and (818) 763-1300. I haven't played myself; the above information was gleaned from a telephone conversation.
