"I'm not sure you're going to believe this. I'm not even sure that I believe it. Yesterday I went shopping at the Grand Opening of Fry's Electronics. I don't think you have them back east, but out here Fry's is a big grocery store chain. I knew somethng was up when I see in their three-page newspaper ad: 64K dynamic RAM chips advertised next to the diet Pepsi. I kid you not. Their mascot is "Charlie Chip". They even had some clown dressed up as a gant chip, dancing around the parking lot. (They DID have hot dogs and Pepsi for 25 cents in the parking lot, too.) Well, inside what should I find but a combination convenience store and computer store. On one wall they had VCRs, on another software, on another, Pepsi, Coke, and potato chips. Weird. To give you any idea, I bought the following on my visit: 32 64X1 DRAM 150ns chips; an IBM-to-Epson printer cable; a bottle of diet Coke; saline solution for contact lenses; enzyme for cleaning contact lenses. I forgot to get Tylenol and Actifed. Oh well. The DRAM chips were 88 cents each. When you figure I was about to go out to Conroy-La Pointe today and get 9 chips at $19, I saved quite a bunch. I got 256K for my junior for $29. I know have a 512K junior, which is all I can do with them memory card in the Quadram Expansion chassis' memory card. Boy, am I having fun with this thing now! Programs just zip when I use a RAM disk. I saved the ad from the newspaper for this place. I wouldn't be terribly surprised if you see a story about it on the news. I mean - ONLY in California. Hugs,Me." -- /Steve Dyer {decvax,linus,ima,ihnp4}!bbncca!sdyer sdyer@bbnccv.ARPA
