You don't mention what release of the Unix Operating System you are
running.  Older versions had some problems with ports locking up,
although I don't have the details at hand.  The current release,
System V Release 2.0 AT&T 3B2 Version 2, has those problems corrected.
If you have not upgraded to System V Release 2.0, I'd strongly recommend
that you do so.  If you are already at the latest release, I'd say you
have a hardware problem (spurious interrupt?) and should make good use
of your hardware maintenance agreement.
