However, I will still unplug > everything when it's not being used . Also disconnect the phone line where it comes into the modem. I've seen two Hayes modems die after lightning storms went through. The last time lighting came through, it actually took my phone line out. It took about 2 inches of copper from both conductors out where it arced to a water pipe. Since I had pulled the power cords and unplugged the telephone wire from the modem, it did no damage. My AT&T telephones were not affected including a Nomad 4000. Note: I do benefit from the sale of AT&T telephones and urge everyone to buy a dozen :-)
