Four times 128 kByte would leave no space for the system. Agreed that the system error is a bit harsh, but reportedly you can get back to the switcher after system errors with a chord like command-option-shift-period. To reduce the memory of an application, choose "configure then install" from the Switcher menu. Again, if you reduce it too much, it will bomb. Good luck!
