It comes in tar format on 12 diskettes (1 bootable floppy, 5 system (root), 6 usr) and contains no source; binary only. Venix occupies ~3.5Mb (I understand Xenix occupies at least 7.5Mb - a lot on a 10Mb disk). Venix in memory occupies ~160K of memory (depends on how many 'gettys' you have). Venix is available in single or multi-user versions (multi is 8); cost is $1000 single, $1250 multi. Venix is Version 7 compatible. It has a C compiler, lint, ar, as, YACC, lex, awk, nroff, tbl, eqn, dd, tar, dump, ex/vi, ed, sed, bourne shell, csh, termCAP, curses, basic, just to name a few. Venix also has the ability to read/write DOS diskettes and to transfer files to/from the DOS partition directly (disk to disk - used to have to use a floppy as an intermediary). I should mention Venix takes 3 of 4 disk partitions on a 10Mb disk. Partition 4 can be set aside for DOS, but doesn't have to be (more /usr space if not). One neat feature of Venix (multi) is that you can have up to 4 windows on the console. Window selection is by typing ALT-1, ALT-2, ALT-3, ALT-4. This feature allows you to log in up to 4 times using the console. -- R. Kevin Laux Software Vendor Tech Support ATTIS Lincroft mtuxo!rkl 201-576-3610
